Who we are and who reads GeneralUpdate

GeneralUpdate is a growing tech focused blog that helps readers understand modern technology in a simple and practical way. We publish informative, easy to understand and actionable content for tech enthusiasts, students and professionals who want clear technology updates and guides that help them make better digital decisions.

Our readers want technology explained without jargon. They look for AI updates they can trust, software advice they can act on, cybersecurity tips that keep them safe, and how to guides that work the first time. If you can write a clear, useful article on a technology topic, we would like to hear from you.

We welcome tech bloggers, niche website owners, freelance tech writers and industry professionals. You do not need a large audience or a famous name. You need original insight, accurate facts and a genuine desire to help the reader.

Topics we accept

We accept original technology guest posts in these categories:

  • AI and Automation: AI tools, machine learning basics and future technology insights
  • AI Tool Reviews: honest reviews of AI tools you have used
  • AI for Business: AI adoption, automation and productivity for businesses
  • Cybersecurity: data protection, privacy tips, cyber threats and security awareness
  • Technology: technology news, trends and practical analysis
  • Tech Tips: step by step tutorials, troubleshooting and beginner friendly guides
  • Marketing: marketing technology, tools and practical digital marketing advice

We also accept software and application guides, internet tool reviews, and SaaS comparisons, provided they are practical and written for our readers rather than for promotion.

Topics in demand right now

Last updated: 31 October 2026. These are the topics our editors are actively looking for this month:

  • AI tool reviews where the writer used the tool for real work, not just a trial
  • Automation guides for small businesses: what to automate first, and what to avoid
  • Cybersecurity basics for everyday users, explained in plain language
  • Step by step tech tips that solve one common problem completely
  • Marketing technology comparisons with honest pros, cons and pricing context

If your pitch covers one of these topics, say so in your subject line. It helps us review your pitch faster.

Guest post guidelines

Rule Requirement
Originality 100 percent original and unpublished. We do not accept articles published anywhere else, including your own blog.
Minimum length 800 words. Practical guides and reviews of 1,200 words or more are preferred.
Human written AI assistance is allowed for research and outlining, but the article itself must be human written, fact checked and written from real understanding. Fully AI generated drafts are rejected.
Accuracy Check every fact, price, date and claim. Link to credible sources for statistics and technical claims.
Structure Use clear subheadings, short paragraphs and short sentences. Start with the answer or the main point, then explain it.
Images Supply a featured image of 1200 by 630 pixels, original or properly licensed, with credit where required.
Links One contextual dofollow link plus one link in your author bio, at editorial discretion. No affiliate links and no links in the first paragraph.
Author bio 40 to 60 words, with one link to your website or professional profile.
Editing We edit for clarity, accuracy, grammar and style. We may adjust titles and headings for search and readability.

What we do not accept

  • Articles published elsewhere, spun content, or content copied from another source
  • Casino, adult, gambling, CBD, crypto promotion, or payday loan content
  • Press releases, link building articles with no reader value, or thin listicles
  • Product reviews of products you have not used
  • Medical, legal or high stakes financial advice
  • Articles that make unverified claims about rankings, traffic or results

Our dofollow link policy

Each accepted article may include one contextual dofollow link where it genuinely helps the reader, plus one dofollow link in the author bio. Links must point to relevant, high quality pages. We do not accept affiliate links, links to low quality sites, or links inserted only for promotion. Final link placement is at editorial discretion, and we may remove any link that does not serve the reader.

How to submit: step by step

  1. Pitch first. Email your proposed title, a short summary of the angle, and one line about your experience with the topic. Do not send a full draft before approval.
  2. Wait for our reply. We review every pitch and reply within 48 hours. If your topic is approved, we confirm the agreed length and deadline.
  3. Write the draft. Follow the guidelines table above. Send the draft as a Google Doc or Word document, with your author bio and featured image.
  4. Editing. We edit for clarity and accuracy and may ask you to fix facts or tighten sections.
  5. Publication. Approved articles go live within 7 days of approval. We share the live URL with you and promote the article on our social channels.

What a weak pitch looks like, and what a strong one looks like

Weak pitch example: “Hi, I want to contribute to your blog. I write about technology and can send you an article on any topic.” This pitch fails because it names no topic, no angle and no evidence that the writer knows the subject.

Strong pitch example: “Guest Post Pitch: I automated expense reports for a 12 person UK business and cut the monthly process from 2 days to 3 hours. I will show the exact tools, the setup steps and the mistakes to avoid, with real screenshots.” This pitch works because it states a specific result, real experience and a clear reader benefit.

How we edit your article

Every accepted draft goes through a full editorial check before publication. We check facts against credible sources, test any steps in a tutorial, and read the article as a reader would: does it answer the question it promises, in order, without gaps? We tighten long sentences, fix grammar, and adjust headings so the article is easy to scan and easy to find in search.

We may change the title or subheadings to match what readers actually search for, and we may add internal links to related articles on GeneralUpdate so readers can go deeper. For AI tool articles, we also recheck pricing and features, because both change often and outdated pricing misleads readers. We never change the meaning of your article, and we never add claims you did not make. If an edit affects a factual point, we check it with you first.

What you get as a contributor

  • A byline and author bio on a published technology article
  • One contextual dofollow link plus one bio link, at editorial discretion
  • A permanent article URL that stays live
  • Social promotion when your article is published
  • A published sample for your writing portfolio

Submit your pitch

Email your pitch to britadavin@gmail.com or ellenstevensone@gmail.com with the subject line “Guest Post Pitch: [Your Topic]”. Include your proposed title, a two or three sentence summary, one line about your experience with the topic, and a link to one previous writing sample. Pitches that follow this format are reviewed first.
